With the current worldwide turmoil regarding the Coronavirus epidemic it was only a matter of time till the prestige sporting events took a hit.
With many European countries including the UK banning public gatherings we are seeing a huge impact across the board of motorsports racing.
The first stop of the 2020 MotoGP was to be Qatar held at the Losail GP circuit on the 8th of March but has been cancelled however allowing the Moto2 and Moto3 to still race.
It is believed the real reason for the cancellation is not due to the possibility of the transmission of Covid 19 but that certain top riders and teams come from Italy and cannot attend due to the current Quarantine imposed on Italy.
The second round due to be held in Thailand at the Buriram International circuit on the 22 of March has also been cancelled however it has been moved to the 4th October 2020.
A spokesperson for MotoGP said"Italy clearly plays a vital role in the championship and in the MotoGP class - both on track and off - and therefore the decision has been taken to cancel premier class competition."
Currently the next round due to be held on the 6th of April in Texas is still expected to run as normal however the US government has now banned travel from all European countries except the UK so this may yet still be cancelled.
