The Samsung Galaxy A7 was released back in 2018 and was aimed primarily at the then “mid-range" smartphone market. Now with prices further reduced the A7 is an extremely competitive entry level smartphone with many features only found on much more expensive handsets.

Non sim prices for the Samsung Galaxy A7 fluctuate between around £160 and £200 which makes it an ideal option when not entering into a contract as it is still very affordable.

Let's take a closer look at specs of the Samsung Galaxy A7:

  • 6.0 "Super Amoled display, FHD + (2220 x 1080 pixels)
  • Rear camera (multiple) resolution 24.0 MP + 5.0 MP + 8.0 MP
  • Front camera 24 MP (F / 2.0)
  • Octa Core 2.2 GHz, 1.6 GHz processor
  • 64 GB memory (expandable with MicroSD up to 512 GB)
  • 4 GB RAM, 3300 mAh battery, IP68 certification
  • Dual Sim

Firstly the Samsung Galaxy A7 has a Super Amoled display in full HD which is great for a budget smartphone. For this smartphone Samsung have included some relatively smart cameras including a 24 MegaPixel front camera which is great for those travel selfies!

A benefit specifically for the motorcycle traveller is the expandable memory. 64gb of onboard memory is a decent size for today’s phones but once you have plenty of videos and music on there you can run into problems. Many manufacturers are now not including MicroSD card slots in their phones which frankly is a big problem. However luckily the Samsung Galaxy A7 has a built in MicroSD slot which is upgradeable to 512GB!

The Octa Core processor is fast enough and will run the most intensive apps and most games that are available on smartphones today.

The dual sim card slot and bright screen make the Samsung Galaxy A7 smartphone ideal for using as a navigation and Bluetooth music device on your motorcycle. There are not any motorcycle specific cases on the market that work well for the Samsung Galaxy A7 but luckily at Ultimateaddons we have just released our Universal XL Tough case which works great with the Samsung Galaxy A7 and gives you all of the features of our other waterproof, dustproof and shockproof motorcycle specific smartphone cases.

It has been a while since we last did a long day run on the bikes, it was last October we did the NC500 for local kids’ charity, time flies past and trying to get dates that suit everyone is not easy as you get older.  We thought about the Lake district, but it would be 3 days to enjoy the most as could not get dates to suit so we opted to stay in Scotland and head over to Skye.

It was an early start to the day with a ride down to Dingwall, surprisingly cold with the sun just starting to burn off the Harr. Roads were quiet for the time of year but still some early rising motorhomes to contend with. Riding through the twists and turns of Garve I had the unpleasant experience of a bird strike.
