When the UltimateAddons team were scratching their heads for someone to provide an honest review of one of our mountable cases, it didn’t take long for Gary Hartshorne’s name to crop up.

Gary has been a product manager for Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre manufacturer, for 14 years and was a staple part of Pirelli’s motorsport team in the world of WSB, BSB and the Isle of Man TT, from 2003 to 2004 . In short, he’s a bit of bike guru who many in the trade will already know and love.

What ‘Gaz’ doesn’t know about bikes probably isn’t worth knowing, so when we requested a no-nonsense write-up on our iPhone 6 case, we couldn’t have been happier when he agreed to say yes – on the one proviso that adopted a no-holds-barred approach!

Gary said: “I have a mount for a sat nav and for my phone on my current BMW R1200GS 2006, which does look cluttered on the handle bars. So when I was approached to test an UltimateAddons case, I was more than happy to give it a go. The UltimateAddons mount and case is an all-in-one replacement, as you can use your phone as a sat nav, link it to your intercom and listen to music without the need for multiple devices. This appealed to me and I see this as a unique selling point.  The fact it’s 100% waterproof allows it to be used all year round too, which was the first question I had of the product, being as we all ride in such variable weather conditions.

“The hole in the bottom of the case allows you to keep your device charged throughout, which was another point of difference which I feel is worthy of mention. The simple mounting procedure on to the bracket allows the case to be removed with ease so you can simply detach the case, put it in your pocket and take it with you.

“To can’t lie, I wasn’t sure quite how much benefit an UltimateAddons case was going to give me. I have seen similar products and I’ve never thought that they are unique enough for me to actually want one. But, I have been impressed. It allows you to gain all the benefits from your phone, it is waterproof and it’s easily chargeable. It works well In the case with or without gloves, although thick winter gloves might be an issue. With my own summer gloves I’ve found it to be ok.

“All in all, it’s been a good addition to the bike. As with most bikes, charging multiple devices can be a pain but with this you only need one device, and that’s your phone.  UltimateAddons has come up with a good idea here, and I will definitely keep on using the case, without question.”

Riding the NC500 in one day

We are lucky enough to live on the route of the NC500 and as a result we have ridden parts of the route many times. However, one thing that has eluded us is the mighty feat of completing the entire 500 mile route over the course of one day. It's a journey that takes you across the breadth of the Scottish Highlands through many of the most beautiful and windswept areas the UK has to offer.
