Mounting your smartphone to your Triumph Thruxton or other classic

Many motorcyclists choose to buy the latest bikes on sale for a number of reasons. It could be they are excited by the high power and excellent handling of modern machines or could be they need peace of mind when it comes to reliability and a good warranty.

But many of us, (myself included!) love the oily smell and hands on nature of the older bikes. There is something special about bikes that have not been in production for decades and need caring for and to be maintained. They do of course have many downsides such as being sometimes a little unreliable and for the owner to have good mechanical skills to look after them and repair them but this is far outweighed by the joy they bring and the nostalgic feeling that comes from riding and owning them.

There are also many modern classics such as the Triumph Thruxton that although are new bikes they are based on vintage designs from yesteryear.

The Thruxton isn’t technically a vintage motorcycle as you can buy a new one from Triumph! But the re-released Thruxton still bears a shocking resemblance to the Thruxton of old and shares very similar technology such as the frame.

For attaching our waterproof, dustproof and shockproof smartphone cases for Samsung Galaxy S10 and iPhone 11 to any cafe racer inspired motorcycle is a similar affair.

Our example machine is owned by @sundaymotorcyclerides and he chooses to mount his 3 prong attachment quite cleverly by using our M6 clamp bar clamp bolt system that is usually used for motorcycles with conventional handlebar clamps however he has replaced one of the clip-on bar bolts.

This will work with any Cafe Racer style motorcycle that uses top bolts to secure their clip-on handlebars as we have three bolt size kits available in M6, M8 and M10. 

Honda CB900

The Honda CB900 is a great example of a bike with more traditional fork leg retained clip-on handlebars.

With this bike there is not a way to use the stem bolt attachment systems as the stem is covered with a cap. There is also no way to use the clamp bolt attachment system as the clip-on handlebars attach directly to the fork legs.

Luckily there is enough handlebar space left to make use of either one of our Helix strap systems or for a longer term fixture our U bolt attachment is ideal for clamping onto a narrow piece of redundant handlebar space.
